Read Rudy Rucker's book "White Light".
It's this mathematical-mystical-sci-fi trip-fest. Reminds me of Murakami, but the action is more surreal and moves faster. And most importantly - it's got humor and some fun madness, unlike some.
The author himself calls his style "transrealism" - the refraction of reality through the prism of a specific person's consciousness. Critics dub it cyberpunk, but this piece is definitely not cyberpunk. In any case, it's only worth a read for fans of math and mysticism, as I understand it, or those who have nothing left to read.
A little quote from the blurb
"Just like Dick, Rucker is also interested in the multidimensionality of the surrounding reality and the 'inner reality' of the human psyche. Their sophisticated collisions and intersections, the birth of phantoms and simulacra as a result of such collisions, the protagonist's agonizing attempts to break through to the 'true' reality and his fundamental inability to figure out exactly which one he is currently in, – all these are themes, dramas, and images constantly present in Rucker's work. And why should he, a mathematician, fear a bad infinity like 'a mirror reflected in a mirror that is reflected in a mirror that...', and so on!"
Simulacra popped up again. I think I've recently started to understand what this word means. And I don't like it.
